Writing Meme!

1. When did you start writing?
Um, a couple of years ago. I was immersed in Naruto, and I wrote a couple KakaIru fanfics.
2. First drafts: Handwritten, typed, or some combination?
It really depends on where I’m at. If I’m in class when inspiration hits, then it’s on paper. If I’m at my computer, it’s in an empty Word document.
3. Do you keep any kind of notebook or writer's journal, and if so, what kinds of things go into it?
Oh, definitely. Unfortunately, I constantly change my mind, so I have pages of fic that I’m probably never gonna post. *headdesk*
4. Do you set any quotas for your work (number of words per day, number of hours per day, etc.)? Why or why not?
Definitely not. I only write when I’m inspired, and don’t have any set system. If I’m writing for a challenge though, I stick to their rules of course.
5. Are you most comfortable writing short stories, novels, or something else?
Short stories, mostly one-shots. I don’t have the attention span for novels.
6. What's your favorite kind of story to write?
FLUFF!!! Cavity-inducing, romantic fluff. Beware the bunnies. O_o
7. Talk about a story of yours that was easy to write and one that was difficult to write, and why.
One of the easiest stories for me was Keeping Track, simply because It’s so much like what I do. I love to reminisce, and that’s basically what that story is about.
One of the more difficult ones was Leaving, and it was harder because it deals with a pairing that I don’t usually write, and splits up my OTP for One Piece. It’s always strange to write something you’re unfamiliar with.
8. Which of your characters is closest to your sense of self? In other words, who do you most identify with in your own work to date?
Hmm… one of my muses, actually, a boy named Tobias. His laid back nature is very close to mine, and some of his ideals mirror me exactly.
9. What work are you most proud of right now?
Well, my entire series of Segments, which is mostly my ZoSan work all compiled together. I really enjoy adding to it, and as long as One Piece still interests me, more chapters will be tacked on. :D
10. What do you feel your strengths and weaknesses are as a writer?
Strengths of mine include descriptions, and beta work. I’m an obsessive editor, and nothing bothers me more in fic than typos and grammar inconsistencies. XD
Weaknesses are length of my stories and character development. I am awful and making up characters, and do my best writing when I’ve got a template for the story, like fanfiction. The characters are all there, they all have their own uniqueness that you can expand upon and still keep them as themselves.
11. Name a few writers who have influenced you or your work in some way.
David Eddings (I adore his books and have read them all several times over), many, many of the writers here on LJ, but most notably
beautifulfic and ranty_rie, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.
12. Talk about something you've written that you later found embarrassing for some reason.
Actually, my first fanfic I ever wrote, Happy Birthday, Love. It’s KakaIru, and totally fluffy. So incredibly fluffy you teeth will probably fall out. It’s not embarrassing per se, it just makes me cringe sometimes. Heh.
13. Talk about the earliest stories you remember writing. What were they about?
The very first time I wrote something was in high school, and it was a short story about these two brothers who got the day off from school because it was a snow day. :D It was pretty much just about them goofing off and enjoying not having to do any work.
14. If you knew you would be successful, what would you most like to write?
A fantasy novel. I have absolutely no clue what the adventure would be about, but that’s what I’d write.
15. What inspires you?
Pretty much anything and everything. A stray lyric, a picture, a sentence in a book I’m reading, a quote, even episodes of tv shows or snippets from my favorite movies. A stray comment from a friend inspired me once. :D
16. How many projects do you tend to work on at once?
Uh… lots. It’s not my fault! I get ideas, and I start them, but most of the time I drop them and never go back and finish. Most of my notebook is filled with small pieces of stories, randomly strung together.
17. Who reads your work before it's released to the public? Do you have beta readers, a critique group, etc.?
No one. I wouldn’t mind someone taking a look, but I mostly write slash, and *cough*… yeah. My brothers aren’t exactly interested, and I really don’t wanna tell my parents.
18. When you're not writing, what do you do for fun?
Read fanfic, watch anime, watch torrents for my favorite shows (SGA, SG-1, CSI, NCIS, Merlin, Psych, etc.), download said torrents, go swimming, read a book, beta for friends, hang out, and play sports (I’m learning racketball! :D).
19. Advice to other writers?
Practice, read other works (believe it or not, even just reading other well-written stories can help. It expands your vocabulary, for one), get someone to look over your stuff and give you tips, ask for concrit.
20. What are you currently working on?
Well, there are a few different stories in the works. An UsoppxNami fic for cuethe_pulse, a SmokerxZoro fic for popkin16, a SanjixAce for thedesertbloom, a random KakaIru one from waaaaaay back, and maybe one SasuNaru.
21. Share the first three sentences of a work in progress.
Kakashi was distressed. He didn’t start the day in that state, however. Oh, to the contrary; his day had a fantastic start.
